Being the Largest Motor and Generator Importer in the World, the U.S. Worsened Trade Deficit in the Recent Years

The U.S. ranks first in global imports of motor and generator, with a X% share (based on USD). It was followed by China (X%) and Germany (X%). In 2015, U.S. motor and generator imports totaled X million USD, which was X million USD (X%) more than the year before.

From 2007 to 2015, U.S. motor and generator imports showed mixed dynamics. After a significant drop in 2009, imports stood stable in 2010, which was followed by a recovery over the next two years, until imports decreased again. Over the last three years, imports gained another upward trend. Considering all the fluctuations, overall, growth went steady during the post-crisis period of 2010-2015, with an annual increase of +X%. In 2015, the U.S. motor and generator importers overcame the pre-recession imports level achieved in 2008.

Considering a steady recovery of the industry over the past years, the U.S. continues to be one of the biggest markets for global exporters.

Mexico (X million USD in 2015) and China (X million USD) were the main suppliers of motors and generators into the U.S., with a combined share of X% of total U.S. imports in 2015. China was the fastest growing supplier with an increase of +X% per year from 2007 to 2015, while Mexico gained more modest +X% per year. Therefore, China significantly strengthened its position in U.S. imports, from X% in 2007 to X% in 2015.

From 2007 to 2015, the U.S. was a net importer of motors and generators. Moreover, imports grew faster than exports on average over the period under review.

Before 2010, U.S. net imports of motors and generators declined rapidly, running a deficit of around X million USD in 2010. However, after 2010, the trend turned upwards and grew with some fluctuations to X million USD in 2015.
