Adidas to Simplify Operations with Job Cuts at German Headquarters

Adidas has announced plans to cut up to 500 jobs at its headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany. According to a CNBC report, these layoffs could affect nearly 9% of the 5,800 employees based at this location.

The job cuts come on the heels of Adidas reporting better-than-expected preliminary profits for the holiday quarter, marking a 19% uptick in sales. The company forecasts its sales to reach 5.97 billion euros, surpassing analyst expectations pinned at 5.68 billion euros, as per data from the IndexBox platform.

A spokesperson from Adidas clarified that the reduction in workforce is not part of a cost-cutting initiative but a measure to adapt to changes in business dynamics over recent years. "To set adidas up for long-term success, we are now starting to look at how we align our operating model with the reality of how we work," the spokesperson stated, emphasizing the intent to simplify operations rather than cut costs.

Recent strong performance was bolstered by the popularity of classic footwear lines such as the Samba and Gazelle, and a relative decline at its chief competitor, Nike. Despite the workforce adjustments, Adidas is positioning itself for sustained growth as it continues to restructure and refine its business strategy in the competitive sports apparel market.
