American Airlines Surpasses Expectations with Better-than-Expected Q4 Revenue Growth

According to a recent report, American Airlines (NASDAQ:AAL) has announced a remarkable performance in the fourth quarter of the calendar year 2024, defying market forecasts with its sales figures. The global airline saw its revenue increase by 4.6% year-on-year, totaling $13.66 billion, and achieved a non-GAAP profit of $0.86 per share, surpassing analysts' consensus estimates by an impressive 30.1%.

CEO Robert Isom highlighted several key achievements in 2024, further cementing American Airlines' position as one of the leading players in the aviation sector, both in the United States and globally. Despite a modest annualized revenue growth of 5.2% over two years, a closer analysis reveals a notable advancement as indicated by the revenue passenger miles (RPM) metrics. The airline posted a significant 60.68 billion RPM in the latest quarter. Even though this RPM growth averaged 7.7% annually over the past two years, surpassing its revenue growth, it also reveals opportunities to enhance the company's monetization strategies.
