American Pacific Mining Expands Copper Resources at Palmer Project

American Pacific Mining has significantly increased its copper resources at the Palmer volcanic massive sulphide project in southeast Alaska. The updated mineral resource estimate (MRE), reported by Mining.com, showcases a 16% increase in contained copper compared to the June 2019 estimate.

The new MRE details 4.77 million indicated tonnes containing 178 million pounds of copper, marking a notable enhancement in both grade and overall copper count. For inferred resources, the report estimates 12 million tonnes holding 151.5 million pounds of copper, a substantial 22% increase in this category.

CEO Warwick Smith from American Pacific Mining expressed enthusiasm over this "major project milestone," particularly after acquiring 100% ownership in late 2024. The transition occurred following a strategic deal with Dowa Metals & Mining, allowing the latter an option to purchase half of the future zinc concentrate output from Palmer.

This development comes after extensive investment in the Palmer project, which has seen over $100 million in spending by the end of 2023. An additional $12.8 million has been allocated by the joint venture for 2024. The updated resources draw information from a comprehensive drilling database totaling 96,485 meters, supporting the projections of the project's potential longevity. According to the project's 2019 preliminary economic assessment, the copper-zinc resource could sustain an 11-year mining operation with a promising net present value of $266 million and a 21% internal rate of return.

The publication of these results coincided with a 2.3% rise in American Pacific Mining's share value, trading at C$0.22 per share, positioning the company's market capitalization around C$47.4 million.
