Apollo Global Aims to Revolutionize Private Asset Trading

Apollo Global Management Inc. is making strides towards establishing a groundbreaking marketplace for trading high-grade private assets, potentially transforming a sector traditionally dominated by major Wall Street players. Head of Apollo Capital Solutions, Eric Needleman, shared that this endeavor represents a significant shift in the modern-day private markets, where asset trading typically lacks transparency and public price disclosure. By trading and syndicating its originated debt on a larger scale, Apollo aims to introduce a first-of-its-kind marketplace, boasting more than 60 active clients and roughly $2 billion in traded products.

Expanding Horizons in the Booming Private Credit Market

With an eye on the $1.6 trillion private credit market, Apollo seeks to seize the opportunity as traditional banks pull back from holding risks on their balance sheets, paving the way for market-makers adept in fixed income and corporate debt trading. According to data from IndexBox, this market has been experiencing significant growth, indicating an ample arena for such innovative trading solutions.

Apollo's latest hire, John Maggiacomo, formerly the head of US credit sales at RBC Capital Markets, strengthens its team to reinforce its market presence. Last year, the firm successfully originated $222 billion in loans, placing some on the balance sheets of Athene, its insurance arm, and other third-party insurers, furthering its liquidity strategy.

As Apollo continues to build out its trading infrastructure, bringing private credit closer to retail investors - as seen in their collaboration with State Street Corp. to launch an exchange-traded fund - the firm positions itself at the forefront of evolving finance landscapes, challenging traditional roles of financial institutions.
