Asante Gold's Feasibility Study Promises Extended Life for Bibiani Mine

In a recent development, Asante Gold released a definitive feasibility study (DFS) confirming the potential to extend the Bibiani mine's operational life by at least seven years. This extension will be achieved through mining the underground reserves beneath the existing open pits.

The DFS builds upon Asante's previously articulated underground strategy, initially detailed at the prefeasibility level in April 2024. The study focuses on the underground extraction from the Bibiani Main and Walsh orebodies, with total reserves estimated at nearly 12 million tonnes grading 2.36 g/t gold. Over seven years, gold production is projected to reach 798,000 ounces, with an all-in sustaining cost of $1,035 per ounce. The project boasts a post-tax net present value of $516 million and a 71% internal rate of return.

IndexBox data indicates that Ghana's export value for vegetables, specifically those uncooked or cooked by steaming or boiling in water, frozen, was $29,000 in 2024, showing an increase from $23,800 in 2023. This is contrasted by the import value, which reached $274,800 in 2024, up from $177,700 in 2023.

Asante plans to phase in the underground project alongside open-pit mining, with an initial capital outlay of $116 million over two years, net of pre-completion revenue from 33,000 ounces produced. As the underground project progresses, the company will utilize the existing Bibiani plant, which was recommissioned in mid-2022.

Asante CEO Dave Anthony expressed optimism about Bibiani's future, highlighting a target of achieving annual production exceeding 250,000 ounces by 2026. Additionally, the company's growth initiatives include the newly completed Bibiani-Goaso Highway bypass and the anticipated availability of a new sulphide treatment plant by Q2 2025.
