Asyad Group Announces IPO for Shipping Division in Privatisation Move

Oman's state-owned logistics entity, Asyad Group, is set to offer shares in its shipping division through an initial public offering (IPO) as part of the nation's ongoing privatisation endeavors. According to reports, the group, which is under the umbrella of Oman's sovereign wealth fund, intends to divest a minimum 20% stake in Asyad Shipping Company, listing it on the Muscat Stock Exchange.

The proposed IPO stands as a gateway for investors eager to engage with one of the globe's most diversified maritime shipping titans, instrumental to Oman's economic landscape. Asyad Shipping, a transporter of LNG, crude oil, and other commodities, counts energy juggernauts like BP and Shell, alongside trading powerhouse Trafigura, among its clientele and collaborators.

Driven by a strategy to lure foreign investment, Oman has managed to convert its fiscal challenges into surpluses post-2022, a testament to its successful privatisation and fiscal reforms. As per IndexBox data, Asyad Shipping recorded an adjusted core profit margin of 69% over the first nine months of the preceding year, reflecting an increase from 65% in 2023.

Sources reveal that the IPO will unfold in two phases, where 75% of the shares are allocated to Omani and qualified foreign institutional investors. Of this tranche, 30% is reserved for anchor investors. The residual 25% is targeted at retail investors in Oman. The subscription phase is anticipated to commence next month contingent upon regulatory consent.

Joint global coordinators for the IPO include Oman Investment Bank, EFG Hermes, JP Morgan, Jefferies, and Sohar International as issue manager. The sale is further supported by Credit Agricole and Societe Generale as joint bookrunners.

Dividend Plans and Future Prospects

In terms of shareholder returns, Asyad Shipping is poised to initiate semi-annual dividend distributions starting in September 2025, covering the first half of the year. This financial strategy underscores the firm's robust potential and its aspiration to maintain investor interest.
