Australia's Battered Fish Fillet Price Rises Slightly to $6,161 per Ton

Australia Battered Fish Fillet Import Price in April 2023

In April 2023, the battered fish fillet price amounted to $6,161 per ton (CIF, Australia), remaining stable against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2022 an increase of 14% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $7,175 per ton. From October 2022 to April 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Thailand ($8,780 per ton), while the price for China ($4,817 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+0.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Australia Battered Fish Fillet Imports

In April 2023, battered fish fillet imports into Australia amounted to 931 tons, picking up by 11% on the previous month's figure. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 when imports increased by 49% month-to-month.

In value terms, battered fish fillet imports rose rapidly to $5.7M (IndexBox estimates) in April 2023. Overall, imports, however, recorded a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 when imports increased by 44% m-o-m. As a result, imports reached the peak of $8.3M. From August 2022 to April 2023, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Australia Battered Fish Fillet Imports by Country

In April 2023, China (494 tons) constituted the largest supplier of battered fish fillet to Australia, with a 53% share of total imports. Moreover, battered fish fillet imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, New Zealand (161 tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Thailand (122 tons), with a 13% share.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +1.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: New Zealand (-3.3% per month) and Thailand (+0.8% per month).

In value terms, China ($2.4M) constituted the largest supplier of battered fish fillet to Australia, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($1.1M), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by New Zealand, with a 17% share.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to +1.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Thailand (+0.7% per month) and New Zealand (-5.9% per month).
