In 2023, purchases abroad of blow lamps decreased by -26.5% to 154 tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, total imports indicated a mild expansion from 2013 to 2023: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 45%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at 210 tons in 2022, and then declined notably in the following year.

In value terms, blow lamp imports contracted notably to $2.7M (IndexBox estimates) in 2023. Overall, total imports indicated temperate growth from 2013 to 2023: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, imports decreased by -24.5% against 2021 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 56%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $3.6M. Imports by Country

China (72 tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (39 tons) and South Korea (17 tons) were the main suppliers of blow lamp imports to Australia, with a combined 83% share of total imports. Vietnam, Ireland, Germany and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 14%.

From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Ireland (with a CAGR of +64.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($1.2M), Taiwan (Chinese) ($678K) and South Korea ($302K) appeared to be the largest blow lamp suppliers to Australia, with a combined 81% share of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, South Korea, with a CAGR of +44.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2023, the blow lamp price amounted to $17,663 per ton (CIF, Australia), surging by 4.5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2013 to 2023, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 16%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $19,266 per ton. From 2020 to 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Vietnam ($20,580 per ton) and the United States ($18,493 per ton), while the price for China ($17,172 per ton) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($17,189 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+12.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
