Australia Crude Rapeseed Oil Exports
Crude rapeseed oil exports from Australia amounted to 100K tons in 2023, surging by 3.6% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a modest increase from 2013 to 2023: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, exports increased by +105.1% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 73%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2023 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, crude rapeseed oil exports shrank significantly to $117M (IndexBox estimates) in 2023. Overall, exports recorded a modest increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 107%. The exports peaked at $161M in 2022, and then declined significantly in the following year.

Exports by Country
South Korea (35K tons), China (26K tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (18K tons) were the main destinations of crude rapeseed oil exports from Australia, together comprising 79% of total exports.
From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +55.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for crude rapeseed oil exported from Australia were South Korea ($37M), China ($30M) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($24M), with a combined 78% share of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of +56.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2023, the crude rapeseed oil price stood at $1,175 per ton (FOB, Australia), falling by -29.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 37%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $1,669 per ton in 2022, and then declined sharply in the following year.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were New Zealand ($1,364 per ton) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($1,352 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($951 per ton) and South Korea ($1,064 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
