Perfume Price in Australia Increases 3% to $46.6 per kg

Australia Perfume Import Price in April 2023

In April 2023, the perfume price amounted to $46,610 per ton (CIF, Australia), growing by 2.8% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a slight slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 an increase of 33% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $58,925 per ton in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to April 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In April 2023, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($74,485 per ton), while the price for China ($8,599 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Australia Perfume Imports

In April 2023, approximately 1.2K tons of perfumes and toilet waters were imported into Australia; growing by 35% compared with March 2023. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from April 2022 to April 2023: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +5.1% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on April 2023 figures, imports increased by +65.1% against November 2022 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, perfume imports surged to $58M (IndexBox estimates) in April 2023. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a perceptible increase from April 2022 to April 2023: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +3.1% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on April 2023 figures, imports increased by +59.0% against November 2022 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2022 when imports increased by 65% against the previous month. As a result, imports reached the peak of $58M. From September 2022 to April 2023, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Australia Perfume Imports by Country

France (468 tons), Spain (293 tons) and the United States (167 tons) were the main suppliers of perfume imports to Australia, together accounting for 74% of total imports. Italy, the UK, China and Switzerland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +13.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, France ($26M) constituted the largest supplier of perfume to Australia, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($11M), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 17% share.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the average monthly growth rate of value from France amounted to +2.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Spain (+7.5% per month) and the United States (+2.5% per month).
