Australia Stuffed Pasta and Couscous Imports
In January 2024, overseas purchases of stuffed pasta and couscous increased by 19% to 8K tons for the first time since October 2023, thus ending a two-month declining trend. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 with an increase of 39% against the previous month.
In value terms, stuffed pasta and couscous imports rose markedly to $23M (IndexBox estimates) in January 2024. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2023 with an increase of 36% m-o-m.

Imports by Country
China (1.9K tons), Malaysia (1.2K tons) and Indonesia (1.2K tons) were the main suppliers of stuffed pasta and couscous imports to Australia, together accounting for 53% of total imports.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +6.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($4.3M), South Korea ($3.4M) and Indonesia ($3.3M) were the largest stuffed pasta and couscous suppliers to Australia, with a combined 48% share of total imports.

In value terms, dried, undried and frozen pasta and pasta products ($19M) constituted the largest type of stuffed pasta and couscous supplied to Australia, comprising 82% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by pasta stuffed with meat, fish and cheese ($4M), with a 17% share of total imports.
Import Prices by Country
In January 2024, the stuffed pasta and couscous price stood at $2,886 per ton (CIF, Australia), which is down by -3.9% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 10% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $3,177 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to January 2024, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($3,843 per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($2,257 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
