Umbrella Imports in Australia Drop Sharply to $40M in 2023

In 2023, overseas purchases of umbrellas decreased by -32.2% to 5.8M units for the first time since 2020, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 46% against the previous year. Imports peaked at 8.6M units in 2022, and then shrank notably in the following year.
In value terms, umbrella imports dropped remarkably to $40M (IndexBox estimates) in 2023. In general, imports, however, recorded perceptible growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 93%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $62M in 2022, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

In 2023, China (5.7M units) was the main umbrella supplier to Australia, accounting for a 97% share of total imports. It was followed by New Zealand (50K units), with a 0.9% share of total imports.
