According to a report from Reuters, this strategic collaboration comes in response to the EU's 2025 intermediate carbon reduction targets, also known as CAFE standards, which if unmet could lead to hefty fines totaling billions of euros for non-compliant manufacturers.

The EU CAFE standards are designed to significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions from new vehicles.
