Aviv Group to Secure EUR1 Billion Loan for Axel Springer Division Buyout

Lenders are gearing up to assemble a loan of roughly EUR1 billion ($1 billion) to support the divestiture of Axel Springer SE's real estate advertising arm, Aviv Group. According to a report from Bloomberg, KKR Capital Markets and Deutsche Bank AG are spearheading this initiative. This financing strategy is a core element of a broader endeavor by KKR & Co., the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, and German billionaire Mathias Dopfner aimed at restructuring the media giant Axel Springer.

The loan, part of a EUR4 billion debt scheme, is initially being introduced to a select group of investors before a wider syndication. This approach, common in the leveraged loan sector, aims to assess interest levels and secure preliminary commitments. The overall demise strategy values Axel Springer at a staggering EUR13.5 billion, with the classifieds sphere, including Aviv Group, accounting for over EUR10 billion.

Axel Springer's media holdings, such as Politico and Business Insider, will remain intact while its classified ad platforms, including Stepstone and Aviv, are to be segregated into distinct joint ventures, where KKR and CPPIB will hold the majority stake.
