Bank of Canada to Cut Interest Rates Amid Economic Uncertainty

The Bank of Canada is poised to reduce its interest rates by 25 basis points to 3.00% on January 29, as highlighted in a Reuters report. This anticipated adjustment follows a cumulative reduction of 1.75 percentage points since June 2024, positioning Canada as one of the most assertive nations in terms of rate cuts.

The forthcoming monetary policy shift comes amidst economic uncertainties, notably the looming threat of U.S. tariffs potentially as high as 25% on Canadian imports. Despite recent positive economic indicators, such as stronger-than-expected data on inflation and employment, a significant proportion of economists remain hesitant to forecast beyond this month's policy meeting.

According to the IndexBox platform, the Canadian economy is projected to grow by 1.8% in 2025, with inflation expected to average 2.1% this year. However, these forecasts might face downward pressure should the threatened U.S. tariffs come into effect.
