According to Bloomberg, the central bank's inflation forecast could see an uplift due to sterling's recent performance, with their SHOK model suggesting an increase in inflation by 0.23 percentage points in the coming quarters.

This aligns with economic analysts' warnings that inflation may exceed 3% in 2025. Challenges Ahead for the Monetary Policy Committee

The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) now faces a dual challenge: managing an inflation spike while contending with a potentially decelerating economic growth scenario. Insights from economic experts like Chris Hare from HSBC highlight that December's 2.5% CPI inflation rate, in conjunction with other economic indicators, could lead to a temporary peak in inflation later this year, potentially surpassing 3%.

Despite the inflationary uptick, analysts predict that the BOE may still proceed with interest rate cuts, albeit with cautious restraint under Governor Andrew Bailey's leadership. The organization must weigh short-term inflation risks against a possibly cooling medium-term economic outlook.
