Boeing's Strategic Resumption of 737 MAX Production Amid Supplier Hurdles

With the resumption of production for its best-selling 737 MAX jet, Boeing navigates a precarious path following the conclusion of a crippling strike at several of its U.S. plane factories. Boeing's slow yet steady production increase comes amid challenges in its supply chain, exacerbated by COVID-19 and the 2019 grounding of the 737 MAX following two fatal crashes. As the company aims to stabilize its production, it provides a glimpse of hope for suppliers like Spirit AeroSystems, though some smaller suppliers are reluctant to fully commit to increased staffing without clearer signals from Boeing.

FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker acknowledged Boeing's efforts to prioritize workforce training and safety, but noted the journey towards achieving their safety culture goals is ongoing. Despite the cautious production ramp-up, Boeing is hedging its plans on a streamlined supply chain to eventually meet their target of 38 jets per month by the year's end.
