BP and ADNOC Launch Arcius Energy Joint Venture in Egypt

BP and the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company's international investments arm, XRG, have officially launched a new joint venture named Arcius Energy in Egypt, marking a significant step in their international expansion efforts. You can read more about the joint venture here.

Arcius Energy, majority-owned by BP with a 51% stake while XRG holds 49%, will focus on maximizing opportunities in Egypt's natural gas sector. The joint venture encompasses a 10% interest in the Shorouk concession, home to the giant Zohr field, and a full interest in the North Damietta concession, where the Atoll field is operational.

Naser Saif Al Yafei, a veteran of ADNOC, takes the helm as the Chief Executive Officer, leveraging his prior experience leading strategy and transformation at ADNOC Gas. Additionally, the venture benefits from the financial acumen of Katerina Papalexandri, BP's vice president of gas and low carbon energy growth, who has been appointed Chief Financial Officer.

In a statement, BP Chief Executive Murray Auchincloss emphasized the strategic importance of Egypt as a "hub for new opportunities" in natural gas, reflecting the company's commitment to building a competitive gas portfolio in the region. Sultan Al Jaber, XRG's executive chairman and ADNOC CEO, echoed this sentiment, noting the venture aligns perfectly with XRG's objectives to create an integrated gas and chemicals portfolio to meet increasing global demand.

XRG's venture into the international arena signifies ADNOC's ambitious strategy of expanding its presence beyond the UAE, with plans to focus on low-carbon energy investments valued at over $80 billion, aiming to solidify its standing in the global energy market.
