B&Q Expands in Ireland with Acquisition of Homebase Stores

Home improvement heavyweight B&Q has revealed plans to bolster its presence in the Republic of Ireland by acquiring three Homebase stores for £3.2 million (€3.86 million). The transaction details and more can be found on Euronews. This strategic buy will see the transformation of the Navan, Letterkenny, and Waterford locations to B&Q banners. Set to increase B&Q's footprint, these stores will add a combined selling space of 9,300 square meters to its existing network of eight stores in Ireland.

According to data from the IndexBox platform, the home improvement retail segment continues its upward trajectory, boosted by increasing consumer focus on home renovation and DIY projects. B&Q aims to capitalize on this trend by enhancing its range of offerings, particularly through TradePoint and B&Q's signature home improvement services such as bathroom and kitchen installations, paint mixing, and timber cutting services.

Set to be operational under the B&Q name by the end of 2025, these locations will also provide enhanced digital options like home and bulk delivery and click-and-collect services. Kingfisher's exclusive brands, including Titan, Mac Allister, and GoodHome, will feature prominently in the product lineup, reinforcing B&Q's market position. CEO Graham Bell expressed eagerness to integrate the new stores and expand B&Q's service offerings, seamlessly transitioning Homebase staff to B&Q roles after the merger is finalized in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2025/26.
