Ceramic Tile Price in Brazil Falls 3%, Averaging $4.7 per Square Meter

Brazil Ceramic Tile Export Price in December 2022

In December 2022, the ceramic tile price amounted to $4.7 per square meter (FOB, Brazil), with a decrease of -3.3% against the previous month. Over the last eleven months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.0%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when the average export price increased by 31% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $5.1 per square meter in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to December 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In December 2022, the country with the highest price was Paraguay ($7.3 per square meter), while the average price for exports to Uruguay ($2.1 per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Paraguay (+6.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Brazil Ceramic Tile Exports

In December 2022, shipments abroad of ceramic tiles decreased by -12.4% to 4.7M square meters, falling for the third consecutive month after two months of growth. Over the period under review, exports recorded a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2022 with an increase of 37% m-o-m. The exports peaked at 9.3M square meters in February 2022; however, from March 2022 to December 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, ceramic tile exports fell dramatically to $22M (IndexBox estimates) in December 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 with an increase of 51% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at 38M square meters in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to December 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Brazil Ceramic Tile Exports by Country

The United States (1.2M square meters), Uruguay (765K square meters) and Bolivia (418K square meters) were the main destinations of ceramic tile exports from Brazil, together comprising 51% of total exports.

From January 2022 to December 2022, the biggest increases were in Uruguay (with a CAGR of +26.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($7.2M) remains the key foreign market for ceramic tile exports from Brazil, comprising 33% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bolivia ($2.6M), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Paraguay, with a 7.7% share.

From January 2022 to December 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to the United States amounted to -1.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Bolivia (+4.3% per month) and Paraguay (-7.3% per month).
