Brazil Sees a 15% Increase in Fixed Carbon Resistor Imports, Reaching $55 Million in 2024

Brazil Fixed Carbon Resistor Imports

For the third consecutive year, Brazil recorded decline in overseas purchases of fixed carbon resistors, composition or film types and electrical variable resistors, which decreased by -3.6% to 1.6M units in 2024. In general, total imports indicated a perceptible increase from 2014 to 2024: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2024 figures, imports decreased by -20.1% against 2021 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 62%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 2M units. From 2022 to 2024, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fixed carbon resistor imports stood at $55M (IndexBox estimates) in 2024. Over the period under review, imports recorded a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 29%. Imports by Country

In 2024, China (1.2M units) constituted the largest fixed carbon resistor supplier to Brazil, with a 76% share of total imports. Moreover, fixed carbon resistor imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Indonesia (60K units), more than tenfold. Taiwan (Chinese) (54K units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.4% share.

From 2014 to 2024, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +6.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Indonesia (+17.2% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+6.3% per year).

In value terms, China ($25M) constituted the largest supplier of fixed carbon resistors, composition or film types and electrical variable resistors to Brazil, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Taiwan (Chinese) ($2.9M), with a 5.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Japan, with a 5.3% share.

From 2014 to 2024, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +2.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (+3.7% per year) and Japan (-1.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2024, the fixed carbon resistor price amounted to $35 per unit (CIF, Brazil), surging by 19% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced decrease. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $48 per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2024, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($159 per unit), while the price for China ($21 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2014 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+9.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
