Price of Inactive Yeast Drops Slightly to $1,963 per Ton in Brazil

Brazil Inactive Yeast Export Price in June 2023

In June 2023, the inactive yeast price amounted to $1,963 per ton (FOB, Brazil), with a decrease of -1.7% against the previous month. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2023 an increase of 17% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $2,067 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($2,525 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($700 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Brazil Inactive Yeast Exports

After two months of decline, shipments abroad of inactive yeasts and other dead single-cell micro-organisms increased by 12% to 7.8K tons in June 2023. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate measured growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 with an increase of 154% month-to-month.

In value terms, inactive yeast exports expanded sharply to $15M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2023. Overall, total exports indicated a temperate expansion from June 2022 to June 2023: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +3.5% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, exports decreased by -4.7% against March 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when exports increased by 168% against the previous month.

Brazil Inactive Yeast Exports by Country

the United States (2.6K tons), Norway (1.7K tons) and Belgium (447 tons) were the main destinations of inactive yeast exports from Brazil, with a combined 61% share of total exports. India, France, China, Mexico, Spain, Taiwan (Chinese), the Netherlands, Colombia, Argentina and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 30%.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +15.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for inactive yeast exported from Brazil were the United States ($6.5M), Norway ($4.1M) and Mexico ($591K), with a combined 73% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Belgium, India, China, France, Taiwan (Chinese), Colombia, Thailand, Spain, Argentina and the Netherlands, which together accounted for a further 17%.

Among the main countries of destination, India, with a CAGR of +18.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
