Brazil Poultry Exports
In September 2023, poultry exports from Brazil dropped to 373K tons, with a decrease of -10.3% on the previous month's figure. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 with an increase of 37% month-to-month. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 484K tons. From April 2023 to September 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, poultry exports contracted to $663M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2023. Over the period under review, exports recorded a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when exports increased by 35% month-to-month. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $901M. From April 2023 to September 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country
China (57K tons), the United Arab Emirates (35K tons) and Saudi Arabia (28K tons) were the main destinations of poultry exports from Brazil, together accounting for 32% of total exports.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the biggest increases were in China (with a CAGR of +2.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for poultry exported from Brazil were China ($123M), the United Arab Emirates ($68M) and Saudi Arabia ($62M), together comprising 38% of total exports. Japan, Singapore, the Philippines and South Africa lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 15%.
South Africa, with a CAGR of +0.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports by Type
Chicken meat (368K tons) was the largest type of poultry exported from Brazil, accounting for a 98% share of total exports. It was followed by turkey meat (5.4K tons), with a 1.5% share of total exports.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of export of chicken meat was relatively modest. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: turkey meat (-0.1% per month) and duck and goose meat (-0.3% per month).
In value terms, chicken meat ($649M) remains the largest type of poultry exported from Brazil, comprising 98% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by turkey meat ($13M), with a 2% share of total exports.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the average monthly growth rate of the export volume of chicken meat amounted to -1.1%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: turkey meat (-1.4% per month) and duck and goose meat (-2.7% per month).
Export Prices by Country
In September 2023, the poultry price stood at $1,776 per ton (FOB, Brazil), reducing by -2% against the previous month. Overall, the export price showed a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 when the average export price increased by 3.2% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $2,071 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($2,267 per ton), while the average price for exports to South Africa ($563 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Yemen (+0.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
