Brazil Sugars Import Price in February 2023
In February 2023, the sugars price stood at $3,203 per ton (CIF, Brazil), growing by 26% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed slight growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 an increase of 46% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $4,046 per ton. From November 2022 to February 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($10,714 per ton), while the price for China ($1,869 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Brazil Sugars Imports
In February 2023, imports of sugars, sugar ethers and salts into Brazil expanded markedly to 895 tons, increasing by 7.7% compared with the previous month's figure. Overall, total imports indicated a perceptible increase from February 2022 to February 2023: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on February 2023 figures, imports increased by +10.8% against December 2022 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2022 when imports increased by 69% m-o-m.
In value terms, sugars imports skyrocketed to $2.9M (IndexBox estimates) in February 2023. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a perceptible expansion from February 2022 to February 2023: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +3.2% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on February 2023 figures, imports increased by +35.3% against January 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 89% m-o-m.
Brazil Sugars Imports by Country
In February 2023, China (528 tons) constituted the largest sugars supplier to Brazil, accounting for a 59% share of total imports. Moreover, sugars imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Austria (160 tons), threefold. Canada (94 tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 10% share.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the average monthly growth rate of volume from China stood at +3.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Austria (+12.9% per month) and Canada (+4.3% per month).
In value terms, the largest sugars suppliers to Brazil were China ($986K), Austria ($537K) and Germany ($523K), together accounting for 71% of total imports.
Among the main suppliers, Austria, with a CAGR of +14.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
