Brazil Sulphur Imports
In 2024, imports of sulphur into Brazil fell modestly to 2.4M tons, almost unchanged from 2023 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the period from 2014 to 2024; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 40%. Imports peaked at 2.4M tons in 2023, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
In value terms, sulphur imports fell to $342M (IndexBox estimates) in 2024. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 124% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $667M in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country
the United States (780K tons), Kazakhstan (484K tons) and the United Arab Emirates (305K tons) were the main suppliers of sulphur imports to Brazil, with a combined 65% share of total imports. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Russia and Canada lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.
From 2014 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +52.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($95M), Kazakhstan ($74M) and the United Arab Emirates ($54M) constituted the largest sulphur suppliers to Brazil, with a combined 65% share of total imports. Saudi Arabia, Russia, Qatar, Kuwait and Canada lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.
Among the main suppliers, Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +47.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2024, the sulphur price amounted to $142 per ton (CIF, Brazil), shrinking by -10.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 129% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $346 per ton in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2024, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($188 per ton), while the price for Kuwait ($97 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2014 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-0.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
