Brazil Vitamin Imports
In July 2023, purchases abroad of provitamins and vitamins decreased by -24.8% to 1.3K tons, falling for the second consecutive month after three months of growth. Overall, imports saw a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 with an increase of 27% month-to-month.
In value terms, vitamin imports dropped markedly to $16M (IndexBox estimates) in July 2023. In general, imports showed a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 with an increase of 20% m-o-m.

Imports by Country
In July 2023, China (985 tons) constituted the largest supplier of vitamin to Brazil, accounting for a 77% share of total imports. Moreover, vitamin imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (117 tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Switzerland (77 tons), with a 6% share.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the average monthly growth rate of volume from China amounted to -1.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Germany (-5.5% per month) and Switzerland (-13.3% per month).
In value terms, China ($8.6M) constituted the largest supplier of vitamin to Brazil, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Switzerland ($2.1M), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 12% share.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to -3.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Switzerland (-9.4% per month) and Germany (-3.6% per month).
Imports by Type
Vitamins; vitamin c and its derivatives, unmixed (469 tons), vitamins; vitamin e and its derivatives, unmixed (447 tons) and vitamins; d- or DL-pantothenic acid (vitamin B3 or vitamin B5) and its derivatives, unmixed (169 tons) were the main products of vitamin imports to Brazil, with a combined 85% share of total imports. These products were followed by vitamins; n.e.s. in item no. 2936.2, and their derivatives, unmixed, vitamins; vitamin B1 and its derivatives, unmixed, vitamins; n.e.s. in heading no. 2936, including natural concentrates, vitamins; vitamin B6 and its derivatives, unmixed, vitamins; vitamin B2 and its derivatives, unmixed, vitamins; vitamins a and their derivatives, unmixed and vitamins; vitamin B12 and its derivatives, unmixed, which together accounted for a further 15%.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the major product types, was attained by vitamins; vitamin B12 and its derivatives, unmixed (with a CAGR of +17.8%), while imports for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, vitamins; vitamin e and its derivatives, unmixed ($4.8M), vitamins; n.e.s. in item no. 2936.2, and their derivatives, unmixed ($2.6M) and vitamins; d- or DL-pantothenic acid (vitamin B3 or vitamin B5) and its derivatives, unmixed ($2.6M) appeared to be the most imported types of provitamins and vitamins in Brazil, together accounting for 63% of total imports.
Import Prices by Country
In July 2023, the vitamin price amounted to $12,273 per ton (CIF, Brazil), growing by 5.8% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 when the average import price increased by 16% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $13,543 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($27,448 per ton), while the price for China ($8,693 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Switzerland (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
