Justice Flavio Dino, who issued the suspension, cited concerns over potential violations of free enterprise principles, suggesting the law created unequal conditions for companies that voluntarily adhere to the anti-deforestation initiatives of the 'Amazon soy moratorium,' a pact established in the mid-2000s by global commodity stakeholders to cease purchasing soy from recently deforested Amazon areas.

The economic stakes of this decision are significant for Brazil, the world's largest producer and exporter of soybeans. A substantial portion of these exports, amounting to $38.9 billion, are directed to China, underscoring the international trade importance of Brazilian soy.
