Canadian Imports of Aircraft Tyres Decline by 9% to $3.6M in September 2023

In September 2023, after two months of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of tyres for aircraft, when their volume decreased by -18.4% to 3.7K units. Overall, total imports indicated a measured increase from September 2022 to September 2023: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, imports decreased by -18.4% against August 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 when imports increased by 36% m-o-m. Imports peaked at 4.5K units in August 2023, and then reduced markedly in the following month.

In value terms, aircraft tyre imports reduced to $3.6M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2023. In general, total imports indicated temperate growth from September 2022 to September 2023: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +4.7% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, imports increased by +31.2% against July 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 when imports increased by 67% m-o-m. Imports by Country

In September 2023, the United States (2.1K units) constituted the largest supplier of aircraft tyre to Canada, with a 59% share of total imports. Moreover, aircraft tyre imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Thailand (1K units), twofold. The UK (381 units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 10% share.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the average monthly growth rate of volume from the United States stood at +1.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Thailand (+5.9% per month) and the UK (-0.3% per month).

In value terms, Thailand ($1.6M), the United States ($1.4M) and the UK ($331K) appeared to be the largest aircraft tyre suppliers to Canada, together accounting for 96% of total imports.

Thailand, with a CAGR of +14.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In September 2023, the aircraft tyre price amounted to $977 per unit (CIF, Canada), with an increase of 12% against the previous month. Over the period from September 2022 to September 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 50% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1.1M per thousand units. From February 2023 to September 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($2,065 per unit), while the price for the United States ($673 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+8.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
