Canada Frozen Fruits And Vegetables Export Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the frozen fruits and vegetables price amounted to $1,983 per ton (FOB, Canada), surging by 43% against the previous month. Over the last eight months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +5.5%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($3,354 per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($1,932 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+16.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Canada Frozen Fruits And Vegetables Exports

In September 2022, the amount of frozen fruits and vegetables exported from Canada reduced slightly to 121K tons, declining by -2.1% compared with August 2022 figures. Overall, exports recorded a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 31% m-o-m. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 164K tons. From April 2022 to September 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, frozen fruits and vegetables exports skyrocketed to $241M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +4.0% over the period from January 2022 to September 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain months. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Canada Frozen Fruits And Vegetables Exports by Country

The United States (109K tons) was the main destination for frozen fruits and vegetables exports from Canada, accounting for a 90% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan (2.2K tons), with a 1.8% share of total exports.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume to the United States was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Japan (-8.1% per month) and Mexico (-42.8% per month).

In value terms, the United States ($214M) remains the key foreign market for frozen fruits and vegetables exports from Canada, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($4.3M), with a 1.8% share of total exports.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to the United States totaled +4.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Japan (-7.4% per month) and Mexico (-33.3% per month).
