Canada Knife And Scissors Import Price in February 2023
In February 2023, the knife and scissors price stood at $6.2 per unit (CIF, Canada), with an increase of 12% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In February 2023, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($8.6 per unit), while the price for Vietnam ($2.8 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Switzerland (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Canada Knife And Scissors Import Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplied products. In February 2023, the product with the highest price was knives with cutting blades, serrated or not (including pruning knives) ($12.8 per unit), while the price for blades; cutting, serrated or not, excluding those of heading no. 8208 ($2.0 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by clasp knife (0.0%), while the prices for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.
Canada Knife And Scissors Imports
For the sixth month in a row, Canada recorded decline in supplies from abroad of knives, scissors and blades, which decreased by -6.4% to 1.9M units in February 2023. Overall, imports showed a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2022 when imports increased by 39% m-o-m. As a result, imports attained the peak of 3.1M units. From July 2022 to February 2023, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, knife and scissors imports stood at $11M (IndexBox estimates) in February 2023. In general, imports saw a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2022 when imports increased by 24% m-o-m. Imports peaked at 18M units in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to February 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.
Canada Knife And Scissors Imports by Type
Scissors and tailor shears (551K units), knives having fixed cutting blades (514K units) and blades; cutting, serrated or not, excluding those of heading no. 8208 (459K units) were the main products of knife and scissors imports to Canada, together accounting for 82% of total imports. Table knives and knives with cutting blades, serrated or not (including pruning knives) lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the biggest increases were in knives with cutting blades, serrated or not (including pruning knives) (with a CAGR of +1.0%), while purchases for the other products experienced a decline.
In value terms, the most traded types of knives, scissors and blades in Canada were knives having fixed cutting blades ($3.7M), clasp knives ($3.5M) and scissors and tailor shears ($1.4M), together accounting for 75% of total imports. These products were followed by knives with cutting blades, serrated or not (including pruning knives), blades; cutting, serrated or not, excluding those of heading no. 8208, table knives and knives; with handles of base metal, which together accounted for a further 25%.

China (734K units), Japan (409K units) and the United States (275K units) were the main suppliers of knife and scissors imports to Canada, with a combined 76% share of total imports. Germany, Switzerland, Taiwan (Chinese) and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 15%.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Switzerland (with a CAGR of +11.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($4.9M) constituted the largest supplier of knife and scissors to Canada, comprising 43% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($1.9M), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 16% share.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at -2.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Japan (-1.8% per month) and the United States (-1.1% per month).
