Canada Nail And Bolt Import Price in June 2023
In June 2023, the nail and bolt price stood at $1,140 per ton (CIF, Canada), increasing by 4% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 15% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $1,466 per ton in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($3,421 per ton), while the price for Japan ($455 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Canada Nail And Bolt Import Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplied products. In June 2023, the product with the highest price was aluminium; nails, tacks, staples (other than those of heading no. 8305) screws, bolts, nuts, screw hooks, rivets, cotters, cotter-pins, washers and similar articles ($12,739 per ton), while the price for screws, bolts, nuts, coach screws, screw hooks, rivets, cotters, cotter-pins, washers (including spring washers) and similar articles, of iron or steel ($1,088 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by aluminium; nails, tacks, staples (other than those of heading no. 8305) screws, bolts, nuts, screw hooks, rivets, cotters, cotter-pins, washers and similar articles (+3.8%), while the prices for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.
Canada Nail And Bolt Imports
In June 2023, imports of nails, tacks, staples, screws and bolts into Canada declined slightly to 172K tons, falling by -4.6% compared with the previous month. The total import volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1% over the period from June 2022 to June 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2023 with an increase of 29% against the previous month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 180K tons, and then shrank modestly in the following month.
In value terms, nail and bolt imports reduced to $196M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2023. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when imports increased by 12% m-o-m.

Moreover, screws, bolts, nuts, coach screws, screw hooks, rivets, cotters, cotter-pins, washers (including spring washers) and similar articles, of iron or steel exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, nails, tacks, drawing pins, corrugated nails, staples (not those of heading no. 8305) and the like, of iron or steel, with heads of other material or not, but excluding articles with heads of copper (7.9K tons), more than tenfold. Nails, tacks, drawing pins, staples (not those of heading no. 8305) and the like, of copper or iron or steel with heads of copper; screws bolts, nuts, screws hooks, rivets, cotters, washers of copper (329 tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 0.2% share.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of screws, bolts, nuts, coach screws, screw hooks, rivets, cotters, cotter-pins, washers (including spring washers) and similar articles, of iron or steel totaled +1.2%. With regard to the other supplied products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: nails, tacks, drawing pins, corrugated nails, staples (not those of heading no. 8305) and the like, of iron or steel, with heads of other material or not, but excluding articles with heads of copper (-0.6% per month) and nails, tacks, drawing pins, staples (not those of heading no. 8305) and the like, of copper or iron or steel with heads of copper; screws bolts, nuts, screws hooks, rivets, cotters, washers of copper (-1.3% per month).
In value terms, screws, bolts, nuts, coach screws, screw hooks, rivets, cotters, cotter-pins, washers (including spring washers) and similar articles, of iron or steel ($178M) constituted the largest type of nail and bolt supplied to Canada, comprising 91% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by nails, tacks, drawing pins, corrugated nails, staples (not those of heading no. 8305) and the like, of iron or steel, with heads of other material or not, but excluding articles with heads of copper ($13M), with a 6.4% share of total imports. It was followed by nails, tacks, drawing pins, staples (not those of heading no. 8305) and the like, of copper or iron or steel with heads of copper; screws bolts, nuts, screws hooks, rivets, cotters, washers of copper, with a 1.6% share.
Canada Nail And Bolt Imports by Country
In June 2023, the United States (125K tons) constituted the largest supplier of nail and bolt to Canada, with a 73% share of total imports. Moreover, nail and bolt imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (17K tons), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by China (16K tons), with a 9.1% share.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from the United States stood at +1.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Japan (+1.6% per month) and China (+0.3% per month).
In value terms, the United States ($92M) constituted the largest supplier of nail and bolt to Canada, comprising 47% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($34M), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 13% share.
