Rubber Price in Canada Increases to $4,056 per Ton

Canada Unvulcanized Rubber Export Price in December 2022

In December 2022, the unvulcanized rubber price stood at $4,056 per ton (FOB, Canada), picking up by 10% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for the United States.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for the United States amounted to +0.9% per month.

Canada Unvulcanized Rubber Export Prices by Type

Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was plates, sheets, strip, rods and profile shapes, of vulcanised rubber other than hard rubber ($7,379 per ton), while the average price for exports of vulcanised rubber thread and cord ($1,773 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: vulcanised rubber thread (+3.1%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

Canada Unvulcanized Rubber Exports

In December 2022, overseas shipments of unvulcanized rubber and articles thereof decreased by -27.6% to 9K tons for the first time since September 2022, thus ending a two-month rising trend. Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when exports increased by 25% against the previous month. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 13K tons. From April 2022 to December 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, unvulcanized rubber exports shrank notably to $37M (IndexBox estimates) in December 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 22% against the previous month.

Canada Unvulcanized Rubber Exports by Type

Compounded rubber, unvulcanised, in primary forms or in plates, sheets or strip (8.2K tons) was the largest type of unvulcanized rubber exported from Canada, with a 91% share of total exports. Moreover, compounded rubber, unvulcanised, in primary forms or in plates, sheets or strip exceeded the volume of the second product type, plates, sheets, strip, rods and profile shapes, of vulcanised rubber other than hard rubber (794 tons), tenfold.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of export of compounded rubber, unvulcanised, in primary forms or in plates, sheets or strip was relatively modest. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: plates, sheets, strip, rods and profile shapes, of vulcanised rubber other than hard rubber (-1.9% per month) and vulcanised rubber thread and cord (-6.4% per month).

In value terms, compounded rubber, unvulcanised, in primary forms or in plates, sheets or strip ($30M) remains the largest type of unvulcanized rubber exported from Canada, comprising 82% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by plates, sheets, strip, rods and profile shapes, of vulcanised rubber other than hard rubber ($5.9M), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by rubber, with a 1.9% share.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the export volume of compounded rubber, unvulcanised, in primary forms or in plates, sheets or strip was relatively modest. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: plates, sheets, strip, rods and profile shapes, of vulcanised rubber other than hard rubber (-1.8% per month) and rubber (+5.5% per month).

Canada Unvulcanized Rubber Exports by Country

the United States (8.6K tons) was the main destination for unvulcanized rubber exports from Canada, with a approximately 96% share of total exports.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume to the United States was relatively modest.

In value terms, the United States ($36M) also remains the key foreign market for unvulcanized rubber exports from Canada.
