This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). The market value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2013 to 2024; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the global market attained the maximum level in 2024 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Consumption By Country

China (8.3B square meters) remains the largest ceramic tile consuming country worldwide, comprising approx. 53% of total volume. Moreover, ceramic tile consumption in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest consumer, India (863M square meters), tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Brazil (780M square meters), with a 5% share.

In 2024, after three years of growth, there was decline in production of ceramic tiles, when its volume decreased by less than 0.1% to 15B square meters. The total output volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2013 to 2024; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 8.3%. Global production peaked at 15B square meters in 2023, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

In value terms, ceramic tile production expanded slightly to $104B in 2024 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2013 to 2024; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2023 when the production volume increased by 16% against the previous year. Global production peaked in 2024 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Production By Country

The country with the largest volume of ceramic tile production was China (8.5B square meters), accounting for 55% of total volume. Moreover, ceramic tile production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, India (1.3B square meters), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Brazil (862M square meters), with a 5.6% share.

From 2013 to 2024, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in China amounted to +3.7%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: India (+5.2% per year) and Brazil (-0.1% per year).

Imports

World Imports of Ceramic Tile

For the third consecutive year, the global market recorded decline in supplies from abroad of ceramic tiles, which decreased by -11.7% to 1.9B square meters in 2024. Over the period under review, imports showed a mild descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 16%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 2.8B square meters. From 2022 to 2024, the growth of global imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, ceramic tile imports shrank to $15.6B in 2024. In general, imports recorded a slight curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 21% against the previous year. Global imports peaked at $21.8B in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports By Country

In 2024, the United States (176M square meters), followed by the Philippines (91M square meters) were the major importers of ceramic tiles, together comprising 14% of total imports. Saudi Arabia (73M square meters), the UK (70M square meters), France (65M square meters), Thailand (64M square meters), Malaysia (60M square meters), Belgium (44M square meters), Australia (43M square meters) and Russia (43M square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2013 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by the Philippines (with a CAGR of +14.2%), while imports for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($1.9B) constitutes the largest market for imported ceramic tiles worldwide, comprising 12% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($823M), with a 5.3% share of global imports. It was followed by the UK, with a 4.6% share.

In the United States, ceramic tile imports increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2013-2024. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (-3.0% per year) and the UK (+4.4% per year).

The average ceramic tile import price stood at $8.1 per square meter in 2024, approximately reflecting the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 when the average import price increased by 15%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $8.2 per square meter in 2023, and then declined modestly in the following year.

World Exports of Ceramic Tile

For the third year in a row, the global market recorded decline in overseas shipments of ceramic tiles, which decreased by -18.7% to 1.7B square meters in 2024. In general, exports saw a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 17%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 3B square meters. From 2022 to 2024, the growth of the global exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ceramic tile exports declined markedly to $15B in 2024. Over the period under review, exports recorded a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the global exports attained the peak figure at $21.6B in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports By Country

In 2024, India (443M square meters) and Spain (307M square meters) were the major exporters of ceramic tilesacross the globe, together mixing up 43% of total exports. Italy (191M square meters) held an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by China (11%), Turkey (5%) and Brazil (4.8%). The United Arab Emirates (52M square meters), Malaysia (33M square meters) and Poland (32M square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2013 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +20.8%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest ceramic tile supplying countries worldwide were Italy ($3.7B), Spain ($3.6B) and India ($1.9B), with a combined 61% share of global exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, India, with a CAGR of +21.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices By Country

The average ceramic tile export price stood at $8.7 per square meter in 2024, rising by 2.6% against the previous year. Over the period from 2013 to 2024, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2023 when the average export price increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in 2024 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2024, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($19 per square meter), while Malaysia ($2.5 per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
