Price of Cauliflower and Broccoli in China Increases Slightly to $1,136 per Ton

China Cauliflower And Broccoli Export Price in June 2023

In June 2023, the cauliflower and broccoli price stood at $1,136 per ton (FOB, China), rising by 6.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, showed a slight contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 13% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,315 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to June 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($1,967 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mongolia ($254 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

China Cauliflower And Broccoli Exports

Cauliflower and broccoli exports from China totaled 21K tons in June 2023, remaining stable against the month before. The total export volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7% over the period from June 2022 to June 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2022 when exports increased by 23% m-o-m. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 23K tons. From September 2022 to June 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cauliflower and broccoli exports stood at $24M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2023. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 with an increase of 28% against the previous month. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $31M. From September 2022 to June 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

China Cauliflower And Broccoli Exports by Country

Vietnam (7.3K tons), Malaysia (6K tons) and Thailand (3.3K tons) were the main destinations of cauliflower and broccoli exports from China, with a combined 77% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Mongolia, South Korea, Singapore and Russia, which together accounted for a further 8%.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the biggest increases were in Mongolia (with a CAGR of +8.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Malaysia ($8M), Vietnam ($6M) and Thailand ($3M) appeared to be the largest markets for cauliflower and broccoli exported from China worldwide, together comprising 70% of total exports. Singapore, South Korea, Russia and Mongolia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 6%.

Mongolia, with a CAGR of +8.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
