China's Electrical Musical Instrument Price Jumps 21% to $89.6 per Unit

China Electrical Musical Instrument Export Price in February 2023

In February 2023, the electrical musical instrument price amounted to $89.6 per unit (FOB, China), with an increase of 21% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated measured growth from February 2022 to February 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.9% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on February 2023 figures, electrical musical instrument export price increased by +20.8% against January 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 62% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $93.5 per unit in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to February 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($151 per unit), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($48.7 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+15.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

China Electrical Musical Instrument Export Prices by Type

Average prices varied noticeably for the major types of exported product. In February 2023, the product with the highest price was keyboard electrical musical instruments, other than accordions ($90.5 per unit), while the average price for exports of non-keyboard electrical musical instruments amounted to $87.8 per unit.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: non-keyboard electrical musical instruments (+3.8%).

China Electrical Musical Instrument Exports

In February 2023, shipments abroad of electrical musical or keyboard instruments decreased by -48.2% to 335K units, falling for the fourth consecutive month after two months of growth. In general, exports saw a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 with an increase of 28% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at 1.3M units in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to February 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, electrical musical instrument exports plummeted to $30M (IndexBox estimates) in February 2023. Overall, exports recorded a noticeable decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when exports increased by 44% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at 80M units in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to February 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

China Electrical Musical Instrument Exports by Type

Keyboard electrical musical instruments, other than accordions (228K units) was the largest type of electrical musical instrument exported from China, accounting for a 68% share of total exports. Moreover, keyboard electrical musical instruments, other than accordions exceeded the volume of the second product type, non-keyboard electrical musical instruments (107K units), twofold.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of export of keyboard electrical musical instruments, other than accordions stood at -3.0%.

In value terms, keyboard electrical musical instruments, other than accordions ($21M) remains the largest type of electrical musical instrument exported from China, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by non-keyboard electrical musical instruments ($9.4M), with a 31% share of total exports.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the export volume of keyboard electrical musical instruments, other than accordions was relatively modest.

China Electrical Musical Instrument Exports by Country

The United States (57K units), Japan (34K units) and India (16K units) were the main destinations of electrical musical instrument exports from China, with a combined 32% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Russia, South Korea, Malaysia, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Brazil, Singapore, Australia and Mexico, which together accounted for a further 35%.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the biggest increases were in Singapore (with a CAGR of +8.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for electrical musical instrument exported from China were the United States ($5.1M), Japan ($4.4M) and South Korea ($1.8M), together comprising 38% of total exports. Germany, Malaysia, Russia, the UK, India, the Netherlands, Brazil, Australia, Singapore and Mexico lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Singapore, with a CAGR of +8.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
