China Glass Fiber Exports
Glass fiber exports from China expanded sharply to 579K tons in 2024, picking up by 8.9% against the year before. In general, total exports indicated a notable expansion from 2014 to 2024: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2024 figures, exports increased by +10.8% against 2022 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 112% against the previous year. The exports peaked at 598K tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2024, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, glass fiber exports expanded remarkably to $1.4B (IndexBox estimates) in 2024. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2014 to 2024; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 26%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $1.6B. From 2022 to 2024, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country
India (74K tons), the United States (62K tons) and South Korea (37K tons) were the main destinations of glass fiber exports from China, with a combined 32% share of total exports.
From 2014 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +12.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for glass fiber exported from China were the United States ($169M), India ($131M) and South Korea ($107M), together comprising 31% of total exports. Vietnam, Turkey, Japan, Thailand and Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.
Turkey, with a CAGR of +12.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports by Type
Glass fibres and glass wool (231K tons), glass fibre mats (230K tons) and non-woven glass fibre webs, felts, mattresses and boards (79K tons) were the main products of glass fiber exports from China, together accounting for 93% of total exports. Glass fibre voiles lagged somewhat behind, comprising a further 6.6%.
From 2014 to 2024, the biggest increases were recorded for glass fibre voiles (with a CAGR of +17.9%), while shipments for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, glass fibres and glass wool ($944M) remains the largest type of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers exported from China, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by glass fibre mats ($267M), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by non-woven glass fibre webs, felts, mattresses and boards, with a 7.4% share.
From 2014 to 2024, the average annual rate of growth in terms of the value of glass fibres and glass wool exports totaled +6.5%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average annual rates of growth were recorded: glass fibre mats (+3.3% per year) and non-woven glass fibre webs, felts, mattresses and boards (-12.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2024, the glass fiber price stood at $2,478 per ton in 2023 (FOB, China), shrinking by -12.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 78%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $4,430 per ton. From 2017 to 2023, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($3,135 per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($1,465 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2014 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
