China's LED Lamp Exports Fall by 15%, Dropping to $4.9 Billion in 2024

China LED Lamp Exports

In 2024, overseas shipments of LED lamps increased by 3.8% to 6.3B units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, exports saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 330% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at 7.4B units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2024, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, LED lamp exports reduced rapidly to $4B (IndexBox estimates) in 2024. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a perceptible curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 7.6%. Exports by Country

The United States (1.1B units) was the main destination for LED lamp exports from China, with a 19% share of total exports. Moreover, LED lamp exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Brazil (452M units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Russia (377M units), with a 6.3% share.

From 2017 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United States totaled -1.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Brazil (+5.6% per year) and Russia (+2.3% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($1.2B) remains the key foreign market for LED lamps exports from China, comprising 25% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($218M), with a 4.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Brazil, with a 3.7% share.

From 2017 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States amounted to -3.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (+2.5% per year) and Brazil (-6.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2024, the led lamp price stood at $805 per thousand units in 2023 (FOB, China), dropping by -19.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a precipitous decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 an increase of 15% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $3.3 per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($1.1 per unit), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($258 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.

From 2017 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+6.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
