China Telephone Exports
In April 2023, the amount of telephones and videophones exported from China declined to 2.4M units, which is down by -10.5% compared with the month before. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when exports increased by 132% month-to-month. The exports peaked at 3.1M units in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to April 2023, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, telephone exports shrank to $43M (IndexBox estimates) in April 2023. Overall, exports saw a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 when exports increased by 104% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at 69M units in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to April 2023, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country
The United States (349K units), the UK (217K units) and France (187K units) were the main destinations of telephone exports from China, with a combined 32% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Spain, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, the Philippines, Peru, Italy, Japan, South Africa and India, which together accounted for a further 31%.
From April 2022 to April 2023, the biggest increases were in Spain (with a CAGR of +12.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($8.1M), the UK ($6.8M) and France ($3.3M) appeared to be the largest markets for telephone exported from China worldwide, with a combined 43% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Mexico, South Korea, Spain, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, the Philippines, India, South Africa, Italy and Peru, which together accounted for a further 24%.
Spain, with a CAGR of +10.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports by Type
Telephone sets n.e.c. in item no. 8517.1 (1.4M units) and line telephone sets with cordless handsets (921K units) were the main products of telephone exports from China.
From April 2022 to April 2023, the biggest increases were in line telephone (with a CAGR of +0.5%).
In value terms, telephone sets n.e.c. in item no. 8517.1 ($22M) and line telephone sets with cordless handsets ($21M) constituted the most exported types of telephones and videophones from China worldwide.
In terms of the main product categories, line telephone, with a CAGR of -0.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review.
Export Prices by Country
In April 2023, the telephone price amounted to $18.0 per unit (FOB, China), with a decrease of -2.7% against the previous month. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 28% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $25.2 per unit in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to April 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the UK ($31.5 per unit), while the average price for exports to Peru ($9.2 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From April 2022 to April 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
