China Unvulcanised Rubber Imports
In June 2023, approximately 3.5K tons of unvulcanised rubber were imported into China; with an increase of 15% against the previous month. In general, imports, however, showed a mild decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 when imports increased by 47% against the previous month.
In value terms, unvulcanised rubber imports rose slightly to $19M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2023. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 with an increase of 23% month-to-month.

Imports by Country
In June 2023, Thailand (931 tons) constituted the largest supplier of unvulcanised rubber to China, accounting for a 26% share of total imports. Moreover, unvulcanised rubber imports from Thailand exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Korea (435 tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (366 tons), with a 10% share.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the average monthly growth rate of volume from Thailand was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: South Korea (-1.4% per month) and Germany (+0.4% per month).
In value terms, Germany ($3.2M), South Korea ($2.6M) and Japan ($2.5M) were the largest unvulcanised rubber suppliers to China, with a combined 45% share of total imports. Thailand, Italy, France, Malaysia, Turkey and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.
In terms of the main suppliers, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +10.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In June 2023, the unvulcanised rubber price amounted to $5,252 per ton (CIF, China), with a decrease of -10.4% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 27% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $6,061 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($12,483 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($1,139 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
