Citigroup Forecasts Continued Rally in Global Stocks Through 2025

Citigroup has declared its optimistic outlook for an extended rally in global equities, projecting growth to persist into 2025. The financial giant attributes this anticipated upswing to decreasing interest rates and subsiding inflation, factors it believes will bolster corporate earnings. Citi predicts that the MSCI All Country World Index Local, a key benchmark for global stocks, will reach 1,140 points by the year's end, suggesting a 10% increase from its last recorded value of 1,035.46. According to data from IndexBox, Citigroup's forecasted global earnings-per-share (EPS) growth stands at 10%, which is slightly below the analyst consensus of 13%. The U.S. and emerging markets are expected to lead this growth with a projected 15% rise in EPS.

Despite the uncertainties introduced by President-elect Donald Trump's policies, which blend favorable and challenging economic impacts such as tariffs, tax cuts, and deregulation, Citigroup maintains an "overweight" status on U.S. equities. The S&P 500 index witnessed a remarkable 24% rally in 2024, driven by optimism around artificial intelligence expansion, anticipated rate cuts by the Federal Reserve, and the potential deregulation measures from the new administration.

Globally, Citigroup continues its "neutral" standpoint on emerging markets, "underweight" on Australia and Japan, and "overweight" on Continental Europe. Sector-wise adjustments include an upgrade of healthcare to "overweight" and a shift of consumer staples and materials to "neutral." Meanwhile, consumer discretionary, utilities, and industrial sectors have been downgraded to "underweight."
