COMAC Sets Ambitious Targets for C919 Aircraft Production

In a strategic move that underscores China's growing prowess in the aviation sector, COMAC aims to significantly boost production of its C919 single-aisle planes in 2025. According to a report from a media outlet supported by the Shanghai government, the Shanghai-based state-owned firm plans to expand production capacity to 50 aircraft this year.

COMAC Deputy General Manager Shen Bo revealed that the company is targeting the manufacturing of 30 C919 jets in 2025, as COMAC seeks to challenge Western giants Airbus and Boeing. Securing foreign certification and scaling up production are pivotal components of this strategy.

The C919, which began commercial flights in 2023, is a critical component of China's aviation ambitions. It is currently in operation with Chinese airlines and has expanded its services to Hong Kong as of this month.

The increased production of the C919 aligns with COMAC's vision to reach an annual output of 150 aircraft within the next five years. Apart from the C919, COMAC is also advancing on the development of the larger C929 wide-body jet, currently in its preliminary design phase. Air China has already been announced as the C929's inaugural customer, signaling further progress in COMAC's ambitious expansion plans.
