Databricks Secures $10 Billion Funding with Meta as Key Investor

San Francisco-based data analytics startup Databricks announced a monumental $10 billion funding round, which saw tech giant Meta Platforms join as a significant investor. The funding round, as reported by Yahoo Finance, concluded with Databricks valued at an impressive $62 billion. This financial boost is aimed at supporting the company's ambitious expansion plans and the development of new products.

In addition to the capital influx, Databricks has secured a $5.25 billion credit facility managed by elite financial institutions including JPMorgan Chase, Barclays, Citi, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley. Founded in 2013, Databricks offers a comprehensive platform designed to assist users in ingesting, analyzing, and constructing artificial intelligence (AI) applications with complex data sourced from varied environments.

Strategic Investment in AI

With the AI industry experiencing explosive interest following OpenAI groundbreaking success with ChatGPT, investment in AI-related startups has surged. OpenAI, spearheaded by Sam Altman, itself raised $6.6 billion in 2024, reflecting the robust investor confidence in this sector.

Meta, among other tech titans, has been increasingly focused on developing and training large language models (LLMs) akin to ChatGPT. Databricks has been intimately involved with Meta's Llama team, which focuses on creating open-source LLMs under the Facebook parent umbrella. "Thousands of customers are using Llama on Databricks, and we have been working closely with Meta on how to best serve those enterprise customers with Llama," stated Ali Ghodsi, Databricks co-founder and CEO. "This investment naturally deepens our partnership."
