DeepSeek's Emergence Causes Market Ripples But not Waves

The unveiling of DeepSeek's latest AI model has caused significant market fluctuations this week, though its longer-term impact on major U.S. tech companies seems negligible according to Bloomberg. Out of 260 respondents in the Bloomberg Markets Live Pulse survey, 88% believe the new AI model will barely affect the shares of the tech behemoths that dominate the S&P 500 over the coming weeks.

Despite Monday's dramatic dip that erased $784 billion from the S&P 500, and specifically the historic $589 billion loss in market value for Nvidia Corp., a notably smaller number of investors are altering their exposure to the index significantly. Only 63% intend to maintain their S&P 500 investments unchanged. Instead, it is the political maneuvers of President Donald Trump, anticipated to catalyze stock movements, that concern 59% of the investors surveyed.

However, the {S&P 500} index finds stability, with a 0.5% rise reported on Thursday, partly recovering from Monday's drop. Investor inclination toward U.S. value stocks has increased, with 39% of participants favoring these over Treasuries or the U.S. dollar. As a result, funds like the Vanguard S&P 500 Value Index Fund ETF are becoming more attractive by marginally outperforming growth-focused counterparts for the first time in months.

Looking forward, the sentiment around the S&P 500 remains optimistic, with projections aiming for a 7.1% increase toward 6,500 points by year's end.
