Dubai Sets New Tourism Record with 18.72 Million Visitors in 2024

In a remarkable achievement for the global tourism industry, Dubai has welcomed 18.72 million overnight visitors in 2024, setting a new benchmark as it surpassed the previous record of 17.15 million visitors set in 2023. This significant milestone was highlighted in a report by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET). The 9% year-on-year surge not only reflects the city's growing global appeal but also its strategic partnerships and innovative campaigns that align with its ambitious D33 economic plan.

Stringent efforts to attract a diverse global audience, notably from North East and South East Asia, where visitor numbers grew by 24%, helped propel this growth. Similarly, Africa accounted for a 20% increase, while CIS and Eastern Europe saw a rise of 16%, according to IndexBox data.

This surge in tourism also aligns with Dubai's leadership in foreign direct investment into the tourism sector as reported by the Financial Times Ltd's fDi Markets data for H1 2024. Infrastructure developments, including expansion of the Al Maktoum International Airport, have been pivotal in supporting this growth by enhancing the visitor experience.

The hospitality sector also flourished, boasting an average hotel occupancy rate of 78.2% by the end of 2024 across 154,016 rooms, up from 150,291 in 2023. Notably, Average Daily Rates (ADR) for hotels slightly increased to Dhs538, with Revenue per Available Room (RevPAR) rising to Dhs421.

Dubai continues to be a leader in hosting international events and exhibitions, further cementing its status as a global tourism hub. Milestones such as the 30th edition of the Dubai Shopping Festival and prestigious awards for its international airport emphasize Dubai's commitment to excellence.

As the city eyes the future, major projects, including the new Dhs128bn terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport and extensions to the Dubai Metro, are set to enhance connectivity and sustain Dubai's tourism momentum.
