ECB Set to Lower Interest Rates Amid "Two-Sided" Inflation Risks

The European Central Bank (ECB) plans to further reduce interest rates as inflation risks become "two-sided," stated President Christine Lagarde on Monday. According to Lagarde, the recent decrease in rates won't be the last as the financial outlook sees a downward trajectory. The ECB believes that while rates remain at restrictive levels, they still have room to adjust. Analysts from IndexBox suggest that rate cuts may continue until the deposit rate descends to about 2%, aligning with the ECB's objective to reach a neutral stance by mid-next year.

The euro area's economic growth is projected to accelerate to 1.1% in the next year, despite heightened uncertainty due to global conflicts and political changes. However, the debated threshold for neutral rates remains challenging, with estimates varying between 1.75% and 3%. Lagarde is scheduled to further discuss monetary policy developments in an upcoming speech in Vilnius.
