Imports By Country
In 2024, the United States (93K tons), distantly followed by Germany (53K tons), France (48K tons), Italy (29K tons), the UK (28K tons) and Canada (28K tons) were the major importers of eggplants (aubergines), together committing 58% of total imports. Iraq (21K tons), Russia (20K tons), the Netherlands (12K tons) and Azerbaijan (12K tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2013 to 2024, the biggest increases were recorded for Azerbaijan (with a CAGR of +44.1%), while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($118M), Germany ($87M) and France ($66M) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2024, together comprising 44% of global imports. Import Prices By Country
The average eggplant import price stood at $1,291 per ton in 2024, shrinking by -3.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 an increase of 11%. Global import price peaked at $1,333 per ton in 2023, and then fell modestly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($1,954 per ton), while Azerbaijan ($473 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2013 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iraq (+4.6%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports
World Exports of Eggplants (Aubergines)
After two years of decline, shipments abroad of eggplants (aubergines) increased by 5.3% to 517K tons in 2024. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2013 to 2024; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. Spain represented the main exporter of eggplants (aubergines) in the world, with the volume of exports accounting for 176K tons, which was near 34% of total exports in 2024. It was distantly followed by Mexico (92K tons), the Netherlands (46K tons), Iran (40K tons), Turkey (27K tons) and the United States (24K tons), together creating a 45% share of total exports. The following exporters - Honduras (14K tons), China (11K tons), Saudi Arabia (9.2K tons) and Belgium (8.2K tons) - together made up 8.1% of total exports.

The United States, Iran, Turkey, Honduras, Belgium, China and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.
China, with a CAGR of +15.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices By Country
The average eggplant export price stood at $1,273 per ton in 2024, reducing by -3.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a mild expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 an increase of 14% against the previous year. The global export price peaked at $1,323 per ton in 2023, and then dropped modestly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($1,973 per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($309 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
