India (100K units) constituted the country with the largest volume of escalator production, comprising approx. 70% of total volume. Moreover, escalator production in India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, China (22K units), fivefold.

Spain (647 units), the Philippines (610 units), Finland (453 units), the United States (405 units) and Germany (293 units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2013 to 2024, average annual rates of growth with regard to escalator exports from China stood at -3.3%. At the same time, Finland (+63.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Finland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +63.7% from 2013-2024. The United States and the Philippines experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Slovakia (-6.9%), Spain (-9.2%) and Germany (-17.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+8.7 p.p.), the Philippines (+3.4 p.p.) and Finland (+2.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while Slovakia, Spain and Germany saw its share reduced by -2.1%, -2.8% and -6.9% from 2013 to 2024, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($397M) remains the largest escalator supplier worldwide, comprising 65% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Slovakia ($37M), with a 6.1% share of global exports. It was followed by Spain, with a 4.8% share.

From 2013 to 2024, the average annual growth rate of value in China amounted to -4.4%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Slovakia (-6.2% per year) and Spain (-6.1% per year).

Export Prices By Country

The average escalator export price stood at $34 thousand per unit in 2024, reducing by -1.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 429% against the previous year. The global export price peaked at $35 thousand per unit in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2024, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($86 thousand per unit), while the Philippines ($142 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+10.1%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
