Notably, in 2023, Chinese exports of glass fibre to the United States reached $448 million, with other significant markets including India ($361.7 million) and South Korea ($335.1 million).

Europe's glass fibre market, currently saturated with surplus capacity from China, faces added pressure with Egypt emerging as a key distribution hub. European manufacturers point out the Egyptian operations' reliance on exports, given the lack of domestic demand. Consequently, these manufacturers are urging the European Commission to consider higher dumping margins to curb the influx of Chinese products through this route.

The complaint emphasizes that the current 13.1% anti-subsidy duties are insufficient to stem the flow of cheap imports, urging for an EU investigation into dumping practices and potential additional duties.

While Europe's Commission remains tight-lipped, citing confidentiality during these preliminary stages, industry stakeholders hope for a robust probe. This investigation could potentially impose steeper tariffs on Egyptian imports, reflecting a calculated domestic value inclusive of production costs and reasonable profit margins, in line with WTO guidelines.
