Ford's Financial Outlook and EV Strategy for 2025

Ford Motor Company is in the spotlight as it prepares to release its fourth-quarter and full-year financial results, focusing on cost control measures and the strategic direction for its electric vehicle (EV) initiative in 2025. According to a report by Yahoo Finance, Ford's expected revenue of $43.01 billion falls short of both last quarter's $46.2 billion and the previous year's $44 billion.

The automaker is predicted to post an adjusted EPS of $0.32 and EBITDA of $2.79 billion. As part of its Ford+ strategy, the company has segregated its operations into three segments: Ford Blue, Ford Model e, and Ford Pro. In its previous quarter, Ford lowered its expected 2024 adjusted EBIT to about $10 billion, signaling challenges primarily from supplier disruptions and rising costs, particularly warranty-related, in its traditional and commercial vehicle sectors.

Revamped Strategy and Capital Markets Day

Investors are eager for insights on Ford's ability to manage these costs and the likelihood of the EV division achieving profitability by 2025. Ford's upcoming Capital Markets Day is anticipated to unveil a refined EV strategy, which has already seen adjustments such as shifting focus to mid-size EV pickups over larger SUVs.

Strong Performance in Electrified Vehicle Sales

Despite these challenges, Ford has reported an 8.8% increase in U.S. sales for Q4, driven by a notable 21.1% surge in F-Series sales. Electrified vehicle sales, including both hybrid and fully electric models, soared by 38% in 2024, reaching 285,291 units. Hybrid vehicles constituted the bulk of these sales, with the Maverick hybrid pickup contributing significantly to the 187,426 units sold—a jump of 40% from the previous year.

Positioned for Post-Tariff Growth

With attention also on potential tariffs, Ford CEO Jim Farley expressed confidence in the company's robust U.S. manufacturing presence, although a portion of production, like the Mustang Mach-E, continues in Mexico. Farley underscored Ford's strategic positioning for growth in a post-tariff landscape during a conversation with Yahoo Finance. The automotive giant's plans to develop smaller and midsize EVs could align well with consumer demands, indicating a promising trajectory for Ford's future.
